Tomoko Takahashi

Tomoko Takahashi is a Japanese artist born in Tokyo in 1966 and based in London, UK. She studied at Tama Art University, Goldsmiths College and the Slade School of Fine Art.
Takahashi's main medium is installation art, often made of rubbish. She first came to attention when she won the EAST award at EASTinternational in 1997 and she has exhibited broadly worldwide. She has exhibited her work since at Beaconsfield, London (1998),〔Withers, Rachel. (Tomoko Takahashi ). ''Frieze'', 39, 1998.〕 the Saatchi Gallery in the 1999 ''New Neurotic realism'' exhibition,〔Preece, Robert. (Tomoko Takahashi: Staging controlled chaos (interview) ). ''ART AsiaPacific / artdesigncafe'', 2000.〕 UCLA's Hammer Gallery (2002–03),〔(Tomoko Takahashi ). Exhibition announcement, Hammer.〕 the Serpentine Gallery in London,〔Jones, Jonathan. (Tomoko Takahashi ), ''Guardian'', 28 February 2005.〕 the De La Warr Pavilion (2010).〔(Tomoko Takahashi - Introspective Retrospective ). In 2000 she was shortlisted for the Turner Prize.
